Summary

We are seeking a senior backend engineer with strong Kotlin expertise to join a team responsible for deploying and scaling backend services on AWS. This role is critical for extending backend capabilities, improving system capacity, and ensuring reliable, secure deployments across Nike’s ecosystem.

The position offers the opportunity to work across cloud infrastructure, DevOps pipelines, and containerized environments while collaborating with distributed teams. You will drive improvements in service performance, deployment automation, and infrastructure monitoring using AWS, CloudWatch, and modern DevOps tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using Kotlin (and Java where applicable).
• Deploy, manage, and optimize services on AWS, including Amazon EC2 and Amazon S3.
• Implement and monitor infrastructure and application metrics using CloudWatch.
• Build and integrate CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Jenkins.
• Containerize applications and manage container-based deployments using Docker.
• Implement infrastructure as code using CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Ensure secure and efficient networking of infrastructures across environments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support and extend backend capabilities.
• Troubleshoot production issues and optimize system performance and capacity.
• Communicate clearly with stakeholders across time zones and teams.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience in backend development with Kotlin.
• Practical experience deploying and managing services on AWS, especially EC2 and S3.
• Experience with CloudWatch for monitoring and logging.
• Proficiency with DevOps tools such as Jenkins and Docker.
• Experience with infrastructure as code: CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Knowledge of containerization and related deployment patterns.
• Understanding of networking principles in cloud environments.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate in a remote, cross-functional team.

Nice to Have

• Experience using Terraform where CloudFormation is not available.
• Experience developing backend services in Java.
