Job Summary

As a member of our customer's DBA team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the availability, security, and reliability of our customer's platforms. We are seeking an experienced Senior DBA who can analyze and optimize SQL queries to enhance performance and reduce resource consumption. You will collaborate with application developers to design and review database schemas, recommend query performance improvements, and enforce best practices for MySQL, Amazon Aurora, and DynamoDB infrastructure.

Job Responsibilities

  • Developing and enforcing query standards and best practices for Amazon Aurora, MySQL, and DynamoDB infrastructure.
  • Working closely with application developers to design and review database schema and queries.
  • Analyzing and optimizing SQL queries to enhance performance and reduce resource consumption.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data integration and synchronization across various systems.
  • Developing and maintaining documentation including database schemas, configuration settings, and standard operating procedures.
  • Conducting regular performance tuning and capacity planning to anticipate and mitigate potential bottlenecks.
  • Performing capacity planning and forecasting to ensure adequate resources are available for current and future database needs.
  • Providing on-call support and facilitating database remediations resulting from incidents.
  • Proactively identifying and addressing database reliability engineering problems to ensure consistent performance and uptime.
  • Asking thoughtful and critical questions to understand and improve current implementations and resolve issues effectively.
  • Staying updated with industry best practices, trends, and emerging technologies related to database administration.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of previous experience working as a DBA.
  • Experience managing mission-critical highly transactional and distributed databases (preferably MySQL) in the cloud environment.
  • Proficiency in SQL development.
  • Availability to participate in an on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 database reliability and uptime.
  • Deep knowledge of architectural overview, knowledge of engineering practices, ORMs, and caching.
  • Strong relational database knowledge, including schema design, normalization, and query optimization.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication and connectivity issues, etc.
  • Experience in performance tuning, query optimization, and performance monitoring.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work collaboratively within Infrastructure and across Engineering teams.
  • Experience administering AWS RDS/Aurora Global Database, DynamoDB, and/or Redis (AWS Elasticache).
  • Ability to proactively take ownership of "Keep the Lights On" tickets and ensure timely resolution with minimal hand-holding.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and address database-related issues without extensive oversight.
  • Experience providing operational support in production environments, including monitoring, incident management, and problem resolution.
